Rare Metals

Lithium

Lithium is the lightest metal found on Earth. It is also the second softest metal after sodium.
Lithium has the property of efficiently storing electricity and is an essential material in modern life as a component of lithium-ion batteries used in smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles.
Beyond batteries, lithium is also used in the production of heat-resistant glass and ceramics.
The “Lithium Triangle” in South America, spanning Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia, holds more than half of the world’s lithium reserves. Uyuni Salt Flat in Bolivia is particularly well known as a source of lithium.
